WolfCode is a professional mentorship program for young Black software developers.
WolfCode was founded in 2020 as a direct engagement response to systemic racial injustice. Veteran Silicon Valley technology professionals created a summer internship curriculum for college computer science students to learn how to develop an iOS app and work with project teams remotely.
The first cohort started with two students from William Jessup University and San Jose State University. Both students were challenged to define a basic app, to teach themselves how to program in Swift, and to build an initial version for code review. The 12-week, full-time program required independent learning and personal discipline to stay engaged during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The goal of the WolfCode program is to increase the number of underrepresented minority software developers in high technology. WolfCode mentors provide insights and guidance on intern and career opportunities at startup and Fortune 500 companies in the San Francisco Bay Area. While our scale is small, we hope the impact is large for WolfCode interns.
